The Dip - Knowing When to Quit!

Recently I finished reading “The Dip” by best selling author Seth Godin. If you haven’t heard of Seth, you’ve either been really busy, living under a rock or have never heard of marketing. This is my third book that I’ve read by Seth and I think it’s a great read.

It’s only a short book and basically talks about why it’s ok to quit something and when you should do it. We are taught growing up and in many other books that quitting is for losers and that you can’t quit and if you do, then you must be a LOSER, but Seth tells the story from a different perspective.

Seth actually says QUIT! That it’s ok to quit, understand why you are quitting, when to quit, and why it’s a GOOD IDEA! Sounds funny doesn’t it. Quitting is actually a good thing providing you do it at the right time and for the right reasons. Why continue doing something that is a deadend, that is obviously not going to work just because someone said quitting is for losers.

The other flip side of the book is that if you have decided not to quit, then you need to push past what Seth calls the dip, which is that time after you have started your project and all the excitement has now gone because you’ve been doing it for awhile and the hard yards start to grind you down and where it just seems like you aren’t getting anywhere.  Understanding that getting pushing through the dip is where the rewards are and if you have good reasons then you should stick and push through until you get to the other side and become a market leader in your field.

If you want to improve your marketing knowledge, you just may find this book useful in helping you make better decisions in when to quit and when to push through to the other side.

NO SURPRISES: Just in case you didn’t notice… purchasing the book from the Amazon link on the right will mean I get a kick back from the purchase.
